As a result of large-scale evidentiary and other procedural actions carried out during the multi-faceted criminal proceedings investigated in the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Republic of Armenia, it was established that three officials of Kentron administrative district of Yerevan Municipality, both as part of a group and individually, demanded and received bribes in the total amount of about AMD 1 million for illegal inaction in favor of some persons, using their official powers to the detriment of state interests.
In particular, the preliminary investigation revealed that the above-mentioned officials, demonstrating illegal inaction in favor of dozens of citizens, did not record the facts of implementation of construction works by the latter, in violation of the established procedure and assisted to the evasion of administrative responsibility, in return for which they received various amounts of money from them as bribes. Moreover, no administrative proceedings were initiated on the above-mentioned facts of violations, as a result of which the community of Yerevan suffered damages in the total amount of AMD 5,250,000.
The officials of Kentron administrative district were charged with multiple episodes of bribery, abuse of official authority, and aiding and abetting bribery. Arrest was applied as a measure of restriction against one of the aforementioned officials, and home arrest and bail were applied against the other two.
Criminal prosecutions were initiated in the course of the preliminary investigation against 9 persons who bribed officials for illegal inaction in their favor and mediated in receiving bribes for their own benefit.
The preliminary investigation under the criminal proceedings against the above-mentioned officials has been completed. The materials of the proceedings, along with an indictment, were submitted to the supervising prosecutor with a motion to approve and send to the court.
Notification. the person accused of a crime is considered innocent until his guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure established by the RA Criminal Procedure Code by a verdict entered into legal force.
