Officers of the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Republic of Armenia have uncovered additional cases of offering and acceptance of electoral bribes, violations of the statutory ban on charitable activities during the election period, and obstruction of the free exercise of citizens’ electoral rights. In particular, it was established that, at the initiative of a candidate from the “Strong Armenia” party, a group of persons paid the apartment rental expenses of several voters in Armenia’s Lori marz despite the legislative prohibition in force during the election period.
To avoid detection and reduce the traceability of their activities, members of the group used intermediaries and vehicles belonging to those intermediaries, distributed funds primarily in cash, involved employees of affiliated companies and persons from their social circles in the receipt and distribution of the money, and planned to use Russian bank cards to complicate monitoring of financial transactions.
A criminal proceeding has been initiated by the Anti-Corruption Committee in connection with the case. Several persons have been detained, and searches and other procedural actions have been carried out.
Notification. the person accused of a crime is considered innocent until his guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure established by the RA Criminal Procedure Code by a verdict entered into legal force.
