Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Republic of Armenia Receives Representatives of the Observation Mission of the International Organisation of La Francophonie

Artur Nahapetyan, Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Republic of Armenia, received a delegation headed by Philippe Courard, Head of the Observation Mission of the International Organisation of La Francophonie.

The parties discussed the powers of the Anti-Corruption Committee in investigating electoral crimes related to the parliamentary elections to be held in Armenia, as well as the Committee’s role in ensuring the transparency and legality of electoral processes.

Referring to the institution’s consistent efforts to combat electoral crimes and the numerous recent disclosures, the Chairman of the Committee noted that these cases mainly concern the giving and receiving of electoral bribes, as well as violations of the prohibition on charity activities during the electoral process. Artur Nahapetyan presented certain statistical data, noting that from 7 February 2026 to the present, 89 criminal proceedings have been initiated in relation to electoral crimes, and 128 individuals have been detained. Criminal prosecution has been instituted against 142 persons. Of these, arrest and house arrest have been selected as measures of restriction against 65 individuals, while the preliminary investigation has already been completed in criminal proceedings concerning 34 accused persons.

At the same time, Artur Nahapetyan emphasized that, in addition to uncovering electoral crimes, it is even more important for the Anti-Corruption Committee to prevent and deter such cases, and that the Committee is also taking active steps in that direction.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue their cooperation.  

Notification. the person accused of a crime is considered innocent until his guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure established by the RA Criminal Procedure Code by a verdict entered into legal force.
