New Cases of Giving and Receiving Electoral Bribes Uncovered by Officers of The Anti-Corruption Committee

Within the framework of criminal proceedings initiated at the Anti-Corruption Committee on the basis of measures carried out by the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, factual data were obtained indicating that a candidate for deputy from the “Armenia” Alliance of Political Parties, taking advantage of the opportunity provided by law to nominate members of precinct electoral commissions, used an institutional guarantee aimed at ensuring confidence in democratic processes to serve his political interests.

In particular, when selecting commission members, he gave preference to those persons who agreed, on the condition of being included in the commission and receiving remuneration for it, to ensure both their own vote and the votes of a specific number of persons recruited by them, in effect using membership in the commission and the remuneration provided for it as a means of obtaining votes.

Criminal proceedings were initiated in connection with the incident. A number of persons were detained, and searches were conducted, during which electronic storage devices, computers, equipment for detecting eavesdropping devices, as well as a number of other documents containing information on monetary transactions and the provision of assistance to various citizens, having evidentiary significance for the proceedings, were discovered. 

Notification. the person accused of a crime is considered innocent until his guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure established by the RA Criminal Procedure Code by a verdict entered into legal force.
