Officials of the Malatia-Sebastia Administrative District Accused of Bribe-Taking: Preliminary Investigation Completed

Within the framework of the criminal proceedings initiated based on operative-search measures carried out by the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Republic of Armenia, it was established that certain officials of the staff of the Head of the Malatia-Sebastia administrative district of Yerevan abused their official powers and received bribes in exchange for unlawful inaction in favor of several citizens.

In particular, one of the officials, being prior aware of illegal construction works carried out without a permit by a citizen in the same district, demanded a bribe of AMD 200,000 in November 2025 in exchange for not recording the violation entailing a fine of up to AMD 2.5 million.

The preliminary investigation also established that another official, knowing about illegal construction works at one of the addresses in the district, demanded and received a bribe in October 2025 in order to unlawfully refrain from documenting the violation in favor of the resident.

Both officials have been charged under Article 435, Part 2, Clause 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. Arrest has been applied as a measure of restriction against one of them. The bribe-giver has been charged under Article 436, Part 2, Clause 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia.

The preliminary investigation has been completed, and the materials of the proceedings with the indictment have been submitted to the supervising prosecutor for approval and referral to court.

Notification. the person accused of a crime is considered innocent until his guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure established by the RA Criminal Procedure Code by a verdict entered into legal force.
