Officials of Yerevan's Nor Nork Administrative District Accepted Bribes in Exchange for Illegal Inaction and Leniency Toward a Citizen; Criminal Proceedings Referred to Court

The preliminary investigation under the criminal proceedings carried out by the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Republic of Armenia has established that the head of a division of the Nor Nork Administrative District Administration of Yerevan, having entered into a preliminary agreement with a leading specialist, demanded and accepted a bribe in exchange for unlawful inaction and official leniency in favor of a citizen.

Specifically, the preliminary investigation revealed that, in connection with an unauthorized building constructed in 2009 on municipally owned land without the required permits and officially registered as an unauthorized structure on December 28, 2022, the officials demanded and received a bribe of AMD 150,000 from the person who had constructed the structure. In exchange, they refrained from dismantling the illegal construction, did not eliminate the consequences of the unauthorized land occupation and construction, and did not draw up an administrative offense report. The bribe was received with the assistance of another person.

The officials of Nor Nork Administrative District have been charged under Article 435, Part 2, Clauses 1 and 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. Charges have also been brought against two more citizens.

The preliminary investigation under the criminal proceedings has been completed, and the materials of the proceedings, together with the indictment, have been referred to the Anti-Corruption Court of the Republic of Armenia.

Notification. the person accused of a crime is considered innocent until his guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure established by the RA Criminal Procedure Code by a verdict entered into legal force.
