Preliminary Investigation against the Department Head Accused of Receiving a Bribe Completed; Criminal Proceedings Referred to Court

The preliminary investigation conducted within the framework of the criminal proceedings examined in the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Republic of Armenia, established that the head of the relevant department of the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture and Sport, using his official powers, received bribes from the parents of students of the institute in exchange for patronage.

In particular, the preliminary investigation revealed that in August 2025 the head of the above-mentioned department received a bribe from the father of a student of the same institute for patronage, namely, for resolving possible issues arising in the course of the education.

It was also established that in October 2025, with the assistance of one of the former students of the institute, he received a bribe from the parent of another student in exchange for resolving potential obstacles during the entrance examination process.

The head of the department was charged with receiving a bribe under Article 435, Part 2, Clause 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia (2 episodes). Arrest was applied as a measure of restriction against him, which was subsequently replaced by home arrest and bail in the amount of AMD 10 million.

Charges were also brought against three persons who gave bribes to the department head and assisted him in obtaining the bribes. Arrest was applied as a measure of restriction against one of them, while home arrest, bail, and a ban on absence from the Republic of Armenia were applied to the others.

The preliminary investigation under the criminal proceedings has been completed, and the materials of the proceedings, together with the indictment, have been submitted to the Anti-Corruption Court of the Republic of Armenia.

Notification. the person accused of a crime is considered innocent until his guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure established by the RA Criminal Procedure Code by a verdict entered into legal force.
