The Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Republic of Armenia, Artur Nahapetyan, presented the Committee’s 2025 annual activity report at a session of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs.
In his speech, Artur Nahapetyan referred to statistical data regarding criminal proceedings examined during the previous year, noting that in 2025, investigators of the Committee handled 2,585 criminal proceedings - 296 more than in 2024. The number of completed proceedings also increased. So, compared to 2024, the number of examined proceedings increased by 12.9%, while completed proceedings increased by 4.8%.
The Chairman emphasized that the procedural completion of long-pending criminal proceedings remains a constant focus of attention. Of the 890 proceedings resolved in the previous year, 124 had been under investigation for 2–7 years, and 219 for one year.
Regarding cases referred to court, he noted that in 2025, lawsuits were filed against 298 public officials, including former high-ranking officials and employees of the judicial power of the Republic of Armenia.
According to the Chairman, during the reporting period, within the framework of the criminal proceedings, AMD 1,642,887,983 was actually recovered in monetary form during the preliminary investigation from the total property damage caused, and an additional AMD 726,430,094 was recovered in pending proceedings. Furthermore, as a measure to secure damage compensation, seizure was imposed in completed proceedings on movable and real estate property with a total value of AMD 674,975,798.
Approximately 120 submissions were also addressed to state and local self-government bodies aimed at preventing corruption-related crimes by eliminating conditions conducive to corruption.
Responding to questions from Members of Parliament, Artur Nahapetyan emphasized that there is a positive dynamic in detecting corruption crimes and that a systemic fight against corruption is being carried out. This, he noted, reflects not an increase in corruption, but rather extensive work aimed at uncovering such offenses.
Notification. the person accused of a crime is considered innocent until his guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure established by the RA Criminal Procedure Code by a verdict entered into legal force.
